With this thesis Schjødt's partner Hugo P. Matre argued for his doctorate at the University of Bergen in April 2011. The thesis is initially based on Norwegian law, but topics from a number of other countries with western oriented economy have been included.

The author evaluates the basic legal criteria for classifying various financing solutions such as debt or equity. The presentation focuses on general criteria which will be applicable by the handling of various individual instruments. In addition, Matre illuminates a number of problems related to inter alia the financing of limited companies. The interest concept and other financial costs are also analysed in detail.
