Cris specialises in the resolution of shipping and trade dispute. He provides practical, commercial advice with the aim of resolving the most complex disputes in an efficient and cost-effective manner. He has acted in Court proceedings and in arbitrations conducted under the LMAA, UNCITRAL, LCIA, FOSFA and GAFTA rules.
Cris acts for shipowners, charterers, cargo interests and their insurers in disputes arising under charterparties, bills of lading and contracts of affreightment across all sectors of the shipping industry. He has also been instructed in relation to numerous casualties in the containership sector, including cargo fires, engine room fires and container stack collapses and has acted in major limitation proceedings before the Admiralty Court. Cris also has significant commodities experience, and has acted in sale contract and letter of credit disputes for producers, traders and end users of commodities such as petroleum products, coal, vegetable oils/oil seeds and biofuels. He has particular experience in dealing with the sale and purchase of bunkers, both traditional marine fuels and LNG bunkers.
On the non-contentious side, Cris has advised upon charterparties, standard bill of lading terms, pool agreements and vessel sharing agreements. Most recently, he was involved in the drafting of a strategic cooperation agreement between two major container lines. Cris has also advised in relation to a major project for the long term supply of LNG bunkers.
